Hel of a Du Duathlon

I had been sick the entire week before this duathlon. I had a sinus infection and was on antibiotics so needless to say I hadn't been training at all. I actually would have prefered not to race but the guys with whom I will do my next adventure race were all going to be there so I decided to show up and give it a go.

I met Shayne, Ross and Sebastian at the start line and we took off together. We started with a 3.5 mile run and it was tough for me. It was a cold and rainy day so that didn't make it any easier. Sebastian decided to run ahead and left me, Shayne and Ross together. I did terribly on the run and fell a little behind Shayne and Ross. I caught them at the transition and we moved on to the 26 mile road bike. I'm a better biker than runner so it wasn't as bad but my muscles still felt it. The last run was horrible. My feet were frozen from the long ride so it felt like I was running on stumps. We took the last run very slowly and finished the race in 3 hours and 19 minutes.

It probably wasn't the smartest thing for me to do but I'm glad I raced it with those guys. I look forward to continuing to train with them so we can prepare for our 12 hour adventure race at the end of January.

Note to self: Need to train A LOT!
